When you have a child with an intellectual developmental difference coupled with some unique behaviors and large educational deficits, it can be a lot to ask of a teacher to build off of limited skills. Natalie Justice (forevermore Ms. Baker to us) was, quite simply, a God send to my daughter and our family. She was the perfect blend of excellent teaching built from realistic expectations, good firm boundaries and love all wrapped into one.
When our daughter walked into her 2nd grade classroom following a full year of educational regression, our bar was pretty low-we just wanted her to feel like she was part of the group and maybe learn a little something.
Mrs. Justice had her own bar for our daughter which was higher than ours and she never lowered it. That year our daughter learned to read, she did math, she participated, she loved school.
Mrs. Justice found value in every single student. As a Behavior Specialist, I work with teachers each day reminding them the importance of relationships with their students. We all work harder for those we respect and know care about us. It’s a conversation I never had to have with Mrs. Justice. Quite frankly, she wrote the book on the subject.
My daughter is now finishing up her 7th grade year but if you asked her right this moment who her favorite/best teacher has been she’d say, “Ms. Baker” without ever missing a beat. As the parent I’d have to agree-she checks all of the boxes.

Natalie has three characteristics that as a parent I believe are super important for being a teacher or tutor. First, are her communication skills. Not only could she get down on the level of the little ones she was teaching, but she always kept parents informed of all that was going on with their children in the classroom.
Second, she is patient when it comes to working with and growing students. There were subjects that Noah struggled with, and she took time to work with him one on one to help him reach the next level.
